Hydraulic fracturing, commonly known as fracking, refers to the technique of drilling into rock using pressurised liquid in order to extract energy. Opponents of fracking have voiced concerns about environmental damage and contamination. On the other end of the spectrum, supporters of fracking allege that anti-fracking activists and the media have spread misinformation and that the process does not harm the environment.

FrackNation seeks to address concerns about fracking from the point of view of its proponents. Journalist Phelim McAleer travels through the United States and Europe to meet with scientists and individuals living in fracking areas to understand the science of the process and its true after-effects.
