American Philosopher

American Philosopher is a collection of eight short films by Philip McReynolds, a philosophy lecturer and amateur filmmaker. McReynolds has recorded hundreds of hours of interviews with professional philosophers and other key figures in the field to examine different philosophies in America.

In American Philosopher, the idea that America was founded by philosophers, and what they might have foreseen for the nation, is examined. McReynolds explores what may be the native philosophy of America and the risks that might be involved in practising it. His ultimate conclusion is that there is indeed an American philosophy, born out of the American experience.
